    In the United States, the German spitz is acknowledged in three sizes: small, medium and large. No matter what size he is, this showy dog is known for his thick, double coat, curly tail and happy disposition. The German spitz's size ranges from 11 to 17 inches tall at the shoulder.

    Pick a Size

    If you're keen on the German spitz but not sure if he'll fit into your home or lifestyle, take heart in knowing you have options. The toy German spitz, also known as the spitz klein, is a little fellow, carrying an average of 20 pounds on his 9- to 11-inch frame. The standard or medium German spitz stands between 11.5 and 14 inches and weighs between 23 and 41 pounds. The giant German spitz hovers around 40 pounds, but he stands taller than the rest, between 16 and 17 inches high.
    Eager to please, happy dogs, they are smart and respond well to training. If you decide one of these dogs can fit just right into your home, you'll be rewarded with an adaptable companion.
