What’s a cake without icing? That is exactly what your four-legged friend wants to know. So, the next time you make him some treats, consider adding pet-friendly icing to it. With a short prep time and a few ingredients, you can make him smile.

    Step 1

Pick a flavor you dog likes. For instance, peanut butter (sugar free), white chocolate and honey are sweets that are pet-friendly.

    Step 2

Choose a base ingredient from 8 ounces cream cheese, 4 ounces yogurt (flavored or plain) and 4 ounces cottage cheese. All are safe for your furry friend. Try yogurt since it dries quickly and stays on the treat. Place the base ingredient in your mixing bowl.

    Step 3

Add the flavor ingredient of your choice. If Fido likes honey, add approximately 2 tablespoons. For peanut butter, add between 2 and 4 ounces.

    Step 4

Whip the ingredients together with a whisk, or fork. If it is too thick, add up to 3 teaspoons of canola oil. If it is too thin, add small amounts of cornstarch or flour and stir until it thickens. It should have the consistency of cake frosting when mixed properly.
