What Is the Average Size for a Mini Pinscher?

The miniature pinscher is part of the American Kennel Club's toy group. Small in stature but big in personality, he's not known as the "king of the toys" for nothing. This jaunty little fellow is bold and playful, occasionally willing to take on much larger dogs despite his diminutive size.

Whether male or female, you can expect a miniature pinscher -- or min pin as he's often affectionately called -- to average between 8 and 10 pounds. Both stand between 10 and 12.5 inches at the shoulder. The boys of the breed tend to be more square in build, meaning they're usually as long in the body as they are tall. The girls may be a bit longer in the body. The miniature pinscher is a sturdy little dog with a spirited manner and a high-stepping gait. Historically, his terrier background, size and fearless attitude made him an effective helper at chasing barnyard rats. Today he's more of a companion animal, loved by people who appreciate his lively, playful attitude.
