A pregnant dog is prone to itchy skin, due to hormonal changes. If left untreated, this can lead to breaking of the skin and bleeding. Providing a calm, comfortable area for your dog to rest is of the utmost importance to reduce stress; as well as soothing her skin with a natural pet wash. According to Vetinfo.com, oatmeal shampoo helps alleviate itchy skin, and it's safer to use than medication.

Fill the tub halfway with cool water, and gently pick up your dog. Put one hand under her chest and the other, supporting her hind legs.

Place your dog in the tub, and wipe down her coat with a wet washcloth.

Pour a handful of oatmeal shampoo into the palm of your hand, and gently massage the shampoo into her coat to create a lather.

Rinse the shampoo out of her coat, and wrap her in the towel. Blot her coat dry with the towel rather than rub it, as rubbing can irritate her skin.

Drain the tub, and massage the hydrocortisone lotion into her coat.
